Ahh, Grand Teton National Park! The mighty Tetons dominate over Jackson Lake and the surrounding landscape. Tall pines and taller mountains. Teaming with all sorts of wildlife. Lizard Creek Campground sits in the middle of this paradise, right on Jackson Lake, eight miles in either direction from any other human facilities. No other buildings in the Campground except three restrooms and one little bitty log cabin office. Daily visits by all sorts of wildlife. Over 11,000 campers during a short, 3-month season. What a perfect environment!
But when you mix in all the unpredictable variables of living, breathing people, wild animals, nature’s fury and camping contraptions, the pendulum swings freely from the challenging to the absurdly funny. A big brown hairy butt - the south end of a huge grizzly headed north - can change your whole day.
Throw Bill and Barb, the newbie campground hosts, into the brew, and you sometimes wind up with mayhem. Pre-conceived ideas of what they thought it would be like to be a campground host have been beaten around and re-formed. Bill learned a whole new way to use the term “bone-headed moron”.
They learned a ton. Would they do it again? Heck, yeah! Would you want to try it? You’ll have to make your own mind up on that.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Very interesting and funny stories about the daily dealings of a camp host. Very well written. Who knew there were so many different types of "interesting" campers in the parks! Now we want to stay in this campground the next time we visit Grand Tetons!Product details

Lizard Creek Chronicles of a Campground Host eBook Bill Johns Reviews
what we deal with here. I love this place and the great people who come together to make it so special. Thank you Bill Johns!
Good info for anyone who is considering a camp host position. Enjoyed the stories about the wildlife and the campers.
We heard many of these stories long before this book was written. The book focuses on Lizard Creek CG. It will be a good keepsake to remember your own experience. Yup Bill and Barb have finally headed north to Alaska. Maybe they will find another hosting gig up there.
As a fellow workamper I found this book interesting and spot on! Easy read, wished it didn't have to end!
I sent the book to my sister who emailed and said
Truly enjoyed it. Real eye opener about camping, people who camp, the work that goes into maintaining a camp site by hosts and very entertaining. Funny, believable as well as unbelievable, shows beauty of land & animals, enduring patience & gratitude. From a non-camper
Personally, I come to Lizard Creek each summer, which is why I sent it to my sister. This book is a great reflection on "life at Lizard Creek."
I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Johns’ tale of life as a host with his wife at a campground by a frequently dangerous storm-driven lake in an area populated with bears and visited by campers who routinely ignored posted warnings. It’s a tale, often comic, of campers, who got into all kinds of mischief and expected the hosts to come to their rescue. The book has pictures, including my favorites of unusual vehicles that visiting campers arrived in, and how to tell the difference between a brown bear and a grizzly. I read the book with Google Earth handy so I could see the Grand Teton National Park setting and enjoy its magnificence as I followed the story. I enjoyed the subtlety, the wit and the occasional, gentle sarcasm. It’s an easy read telling of life in the woods in everyday language.
